Giant companies of the automobile world occasionally unveil concept models. Especially with the rise of electric cars in recent years, these concept vehicles have also turned towards electric designs. BMW unveiled the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which was applauded for its grille design.
BMW will rival Tesla and Mercedes with Vision Neue Klasse
The Vision Neue Klasse concept shows what the German car giant’s electric vehicles could look like in the years to come. According to BMW, the concept will serve as a template for electric models such as the BMW 3 Series, which will be developed from 2025 onwards.
The sedan concept retains the company’s signature large grille design. However, BMW has added some futuristic touches with 3D animated lighting effects and door handles with e-ink technology.
The interior design of the Vision Neue Klasse has also been renewed. As befits an electric car, the concept features a larger display screen that spreads across the windshield. However, BMW seems to focus on minimalism and digital technology inside the vehicle.
BMW said the Vision Neue Klasse is being tested with new battery technology that offers 20 percent more energy and an electric powertrain that delivers 30 percent faster charging speeds. Although it won’t go into series production, this concept will open a new door for BMW.
The models that will be developed based on this template design will likely compete with electric luxury sedans such as Tesla and Mercedes-Benz. BMW aims to start production of Vision Neue Klasse-based models in 2025.
