CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology), the world’s largest battery manufacturer, has begun shipping its new generation electric vehicle batteries that will last 15 years and offer a full 965,000 kilometers of range. CATL has designed these batteries to last the entire life of an electric vehicle without any problems, and will retain 85% of their original capacity during this time.
CATL has started delivering batteries with a 15-year and 965,000-kilometer warranty
While batteries used in current electric vehicles usually offer an 8-year or 70% capacity guarantee, CATL’s new generation batteries last twice as long and are much more durable. Developed specifically for long-distance electric buses and light commercial vehicles, the batteries are also impressive in terms of energy density. With an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, they reach the highest level in the sector.
The secret behind CATL’s success is the use of a new technology that provides low lithium consumption in batteries. This technology prevents lithium from depleting over time, allowing the battery to maintain high performance for a long time. It also increases the structural stability of the anode material, extending the life of the battery.
These new batteries are revolutionary not only for commercial vehicles but also for personal electric vehicles. CATL, in collaboration with NIO, is working on electric vehicles equipped with batteries with a 15-year warranty. This could have a big impact, especially in the second-hand electric vehicle market. The long battery warranty could save users from battery replacement costs by allowing them to use their electric vehicles for longer periods of time without any problems.
What do you think? Do you think these new generation batteries will revitalize the second-hand market in the electric vehicle sector? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
