ChatGPT achieved a remarkable success in the mobile app world in March 2025. According to App Store and Google Play data, the AI-based chat app surpassed Instagram and TikTok with nearly 46 million new downloads in March. This figure also made ChatGPT the most downloaded mobile application of the month on a global scale.

ChatGPT was the most downloaded application last month

Although Instagram received approximately 46 million downloads in the same period, it fell to second place due to the small difference between it and ChatGPT. TikTok, on the other hand, could not maintain the leadership it achieved in February in March and fell to third place with approximately 45 million downloads.

ChatGPT’s performance in March indicates a growth of 28 per cent compared to February. In addition, the total number of downloads recorded by the application in the first quarter of 2025 increased by exactly 148 per cent compared to the same period last year.

This rapid rise officially revealed that user interest in artificial intelligence solutions is strongly reflected on mobile platforms. Facebook and WhatsApp maintained their positions among the top five most downloaded applications in the world last month.
