YouTube has announced a decision to raise the minimum age requirement for livestreaming to 16. According to a message shared on YouTube’s support page, starting from July 22, 2025, users will need to be at least 16 years old to start a livestream. Previously, the minimum age required to stream alone was 13.
YouTube is increasing the minimum age requirement for livestreaming to 16
Before this update, children under the age of 13 could only livestream if they were clearly accompanied by an adult. Now, this rule will also apply to users aged 13 to 15.

YouTube issued the following statement regarding the change:
“Starting July 22, we are raising the minimum age requirement for livestreaming to 16. This means creators must be at least 16 years old to livestream on YouTube. In addition, livestreams by users aged 13–15 that are not clearly supervised by an adult may have live chat disabled and may face temporary restrictions on features such as live chat or others. These streams are also planned to be removed in the future. The ability to livestream may also be temporarily disabled on the account.”
Taking this announcement into account, we can say that beginning July 22, users will need to be at least 16 years old to livestream independently. Also, users under 16 who attempt to livestream without adult supervision may have their live chat disabled and face temporary restrictions on certain features.
