Renault Group is continuing development on a new electric car designed for urban use. This model, to be launched under the Dacia brand, is expected to go on sale in Europe in 2026. The vehicle will compete directly with affordable Chinese electric models.
Dacia to Unveil Affordable Vehicle
The first official confirmation regarding the new model’s development process came from Dacia Spain General Manager Laurent Sengenes. Sengenes stated that the car will be positioned in the same segment as affordable rivals such as the Chinese BYD Dolphin Surf and the upcoming MG2. The starting price is planned to be around €18,000, meaning the new model will be offered even lower than the current Duster.

The new electric car is reportedly designed as a compact urban hatchback. It will use the underpinnings of the upcoming fourth-generation Renault Twingo. While not yet officially unveiled, the exterior design retains the Twingo’s familiar silhouette, according to the first renderings.
The wide, forward-sloping windshield is combined with sharp lines and angular structures. The car, which will be offered with seating for four, will be a suitable alternative for small families or individual users.
The vehicle’s electric motor is reportedly optimized to consume only 10 kWh per 100 kilometers. This low consumption allows for a sufficient range with the use of smaller-capacity, and therefore lower-cost, batteries. This approach, focused on energy efficiency, both reduces production costs and keeps the vehicle price affordable.
This move by the Renault Group is considered a strategic step to position the Dacia brand in the increasingly competitive European market. The model, which appeals particularly to consumers seeking simple, economical, and environmentally friendly solutions for urban transportation, is expected to attract significant demand due to its affordable price.
