PlayStation Plus subscribers are now free to download free games for the December 2025 period. Sony surprised users by increasing the number of games to be added to their libraries this month. While the platform typically offers three games per month, this time it’s giving away five different titles for free. However, this generosity isn’t available to players worldwide. Users in some regions have access to fewer games than players in other countries, a situation that has created frustration within the community.
PlayStation Plus December 2025 games are live: Here’s the reason for the missing games
Many PlayStation Plus subscribers globally can currently experience titles like Killing Floor 3 and The Outlast Trials at no additional cost. However, users based in Japan are missing these two games. Only LEGO Horizon Adventures, Neon White, and Synduality Echo of Ada are available on the Japanese store. While Sony hasn’t made an official statement on the matter, it’s believed this is due to strict censorship and legal regulations in the country. The violent nature of the two missing games, in particular, reinforces this theory.

Similar restrictions aren’t limited to Japan. For example, The Outlast Trials is banned in Saudi Arabia, while Synduality Echo of Ada is not listed in the Netherlands and Belgium due to online gambling laws. Sony has previously offered alternatives like DEEEER Simulator to replace games that weren’t available to Hong Kong subscribers. However, no compensation games were offered to users in Japan this month, forcing them to spend December with two missing games.
There’s good news for PS Plus Extra and Premium tier subscribers. Skate Story, published by Devolver Digital, will be added to the library on December 8th. Developed by Sam Eng, this third-person skateboarding game sees you control a demon gifted a skateboard by the devil. Players will navigate the underworld, attempting to reach the Moon and free their characters.
In addition to the new features of the month, the games leaving the service have also been announced. A total of twelve games will be removed from the PS Plus library as of December 16th. This list includes highly popular titles like Battlefield 2042, Grand Theft Auto 3 – The Definitive Edition, and Sonic Frontiers. Furthermore, three virtual reality games were removed from the system without replacements, raising concerns about the shrinking library for PS VR owners.
What are your thoughts on regional restrictions and the departure of these notable titles from the library, and which was your favorite this month?
