The Discord platform has started testing face scanning technology to verify the age of users. The system, which was first launched in the United Kingdom and Australia, will become mandatory for users who want to access sensitive content. This application initiated by Discord can be an important example for other platforms.
Discord will verify age with face scan
In the new system, users will be directed to the age verification page when they encounter content filters or request access to sensitive content from the application settings. On this page, two different options are offered: Users either scan their face through the camera or upload a scan of an official identity document to the system.

Discord guarantees that the face scanning process takes place on the device and that the data is not stored in any way. Authentication documents are also deleted after the verification is completed. This application was implemented as part of new legal regulations in the UK and Australia.
However, there are also criticisms that methods such as facial recognition and authentication pose great risks to privacy. Although the company constantly emphasises its sensitivity to the security of user data, the use of biometric data such as facial recognition has triggered a new privacy debate in the public.
A similar regulation may be introduced in Turkey. It is rumoured that the use of social media, especially by individuals under the age of 16, may be restricted. So what do you think about this issue? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
