Airplane phobia is a common fear that many people have. People have hundreds of reasons to fear heights or a plane crash. However, we can say that the trend or fear of “I won’t go if it’s a Boeing!” has just started to become a trend. So what really causes the fear of having an accident with Boeing airplanes? Why don’t passengers want to fly with Boeing? Here are the Boeing accidents in recent months and details…
Aerophobia is different from Boeing phobia: Here is the “I won’t go if it’s Boeing!” trend
There is a phrase that we hear a lot on social media lately: If it’s Boeing, I won’t go. This phrase, or more accurately the slogan, which has now become viral, triggers the fear of airplanes in many potential passengers. Boeing, which has recently been on the agenda with the headlines “Boeing airplanes crash!”, is also experiencing a bad image problem.
The source of the aforementioned rhetoric is actually the technical problems that have caused airplane accidents and emergency landings in recent months. In early 2024, the front door of a Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft belonging to Alaska Airlines flew off shortly after takeoff. The incident caused a stir in the aviation world.
For Boeing, incidents such as “flying and falling doors” are actually not very old. Two Boeing 737 Max type airplanes crashed in 2018 and 2019 due to door flying/opening. A total of 346 people lost their lives in these cruel accidents.
Along with the research and studies on the subject, design problems related to the door were also noticed in some 787 Dreamliner models. Of course, with all these echoing on social media, “signals of concern in a vicious circle” started to ring for airline passengers.
Although there have been major accidents in history, airline transportation is still one of the most reliable transportation options. When it comes to Boeing, the company states that the necessary examinations have been carried out in all the aforementioned airplanes and accidents, and that the flights are completely safe.
