Today, EA laid off 670 people, or 5% of its workforce, and restructured. As part of the restructuring, EA Star Wars, the EA Star Wars game in development by Respawn within EA, has also been canceled.
The canceled EA Star Wars game was in the FPS genre
Following the announcement of the layoffs, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared a more detailed briefing on EA’s future business priorities.
This includes which projects EA will and will not continue in the future. Unfortunately, the EA Star Wars game developed by Respawn Entertainment studio is among the canceled projects.
The full statement is as follows: “It’s always hard to walk away from a project, and this decision is in no way a reflection of the talent, tenacity or passion the team has for the game. We want to give fans more of the games they want, and we will continue to do so.”
We didn’t have any other information about the Star Wars game other than that it would be an FPS. The only rumor was that our main character would be a Mandalorian.
The fate of the EA Star Wars strategy game is also uncertain. We’ll probably see fewer story-driven games in the future as the company shifts to big open-world games, massive communities and live-service games.
