PS5 Pro Shock: Can’t Even Handle 1080p!
Following the introduction of Sony’s new gaming console PS5 Pro, anticipation for its release has been building. However, the latest preview report has left players disappointed. Despite boasting a 45% performance increase, enhanced ray tracing capabilities, and PSSR upscaling technology, these features don’t seem to deliver much in practice.
PS5 Pro runs Alan Wake 2 at just 864p!
According to the review reports, Alan Wake 2 runs at only 864p resolution in performance mode on the PS5 Pro. In fidelity mode, this increases to 1260p. These figures are the same as those found on the current PS5 console.
The only notable difference between the two consoles is that the PS5 Pro uses PSSR technology to enhance image quality. However, this is seen as a very low resolution for a new-generation console with 45% more powerful hardware.
PSSR’s goal is to improve the quality of existing pixels rather than generate more pixels. Yet, the use of such a low resolution despite the 45% hardware increase has made the PS5 Pro a target for criticism.
Especially when considering that a GeForce RTX 4070 GPU can achieve over 40 FPS at 1440p resolution upscaled to 4K for Alan Wake 2, the first results from the PS5 Pro are a significant letdown.
Finally, it should be noted that no console-specific patch or update has yet been released for Alan Wake 2. This issue will likely be resolved with an update from Sony. Regardless, it is already clear that without console-specific tweaks, perfect performance should not be expected.
