Elden Ring Developer Hacked: Ransom Demanded for 1.5 TB Data!
With the recently released Shadow of the Erdtree expansion pack shaking up the gaming world, Elden Ring is now making headlines for a rather unfortunate reason. Kadokawa Corporation, the owner of FromSoftware, known for developing Elden Ring, has been hacked. Data thieves have given the company until July 1, 2024, to pay a ransom.
Do the stolen data include information about Elden Ring and new games?
FromSoftware, known for beloved games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, seems to be in serious trouble. An unidentified hacker group has hacked Kadokawa Corporation and claims to possess 1.5 TB of data that they will release to the public if their ransom demands are not met.
In a statement from the company, it was revealed that an internal investigation has been launched to determine the affected business units and the scope of the stolen information. They confirmed that no credit card or other financial data had been stolen. However, the data thieves claim to have financial information as well.
Update released for Elden Ring DLC that is driving players crazy
The company was expected to release Armored Core VI on August 25, 2024. It is unclear whether data related to this game or any information about Elden Ring projects have been stolen.
The data that the hackers claim to have stolen include:
- Contracts
- Various legal documents
- Platform user data (personal information, payments, emails, contracts, etc.)
- Business plans (presentations, emails, proposals)
- Project-related data (coding, emails, payments, etc.)
- Financial data (payments, transfers, planning, etc.)
- Other internal confidential documents and sensitive information
At this point, it is uncertain whether Kadokawa will pay the ransom to the data thieves. If the investigation does not yield results, the famous developer may face tough times starting July 1, 2024.
