The world’s richest man and self-proclaimed “hardcore gamer,” Elon Musk, has finally admitted to cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2. Musk, who was previously ridiculed for playing Path of Exile 2 without a loot filter and without understanding basic game mechanics, had long denied the allegations. However, private messages shared by popular ARPG YouTuber NikoWrex revealed that the Tesla CEO had others play his accounts to climb the leaderboards.
Elon Musk in the Spotlight Again Due to Leaked Private Messages
In an 18-minute YouTube video, NikoWrex shared private messages with Elon Musk. The YouTuber stated that the video was published with Musk’s permission and that it was not intended to encourage cheating but simply to reveal the truth.

In the messages, Musk openly admitted that others were playing his accounts to help him reach the top of the global leaderboards. When asked if this method was ethical, Musk responded, “If you don’t play like this against Asian players, you can’t win. The best accounts in Diablo and PoE are played by multiple people to win the level races.”
According to the terms of service of Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2, account sharing is strictly prohibited and considered cheating. Blizzard’s user agreement forbids players from sharing account information with third parties, and Grinding Gear Games, the developer of Path of Exile, also does not allow the use of another person’s account without written permission.
In private conversations on Twitter, NikoWrex asked Musk if he planned to apologize to the Path of Exile community. As expected, Musk replied that he would not apologize, stating, “Why should I apologize to the Path of Exile community? Who are their elected representatives?”
