X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out password-free login methods for iPhone and iPad. It will now be possible to log in to Twitter without a password using a feature called Passkey. The new login method allows users to log into their X accounts without a password.
How to use X passkey login?
X has made the passkey feature available in the iOS app. This means you can log into the app with biometric verification instead of using the account password. The passkey feature is based on biometric authentication via Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode.
During the initial setup process, a cryptographic key will be generated for you to use in X. This key will be assigned to both your X account and your device. You will then be able to use this passkey when logging in on iPhones and iPads.
The key stored on the device will be verified against the key stored on X’s servers, allowing access to the account. Any device with a matching passkey will be able to log in to the account without the need to enter the password.
Passkey login is only available for X users in the US for now. However, the company announced that it is also working on passkeys for Android, web and desktop applications. It remains unclear when this support will be available in other regions.
X also recently introduced voice and video calling for iOS. This support will now be available on Android devices.
How do you like this feature? Do you think it makes sense to offer it for a fee? You can express your opinions in the comments.
