Elon Musk announced that he has started a new political movement called the “America Party” as an alternative to the two-party political order in the United States. Although only a day has passed since the post on the X platform, messages of support and interest have arrived from Mark Cuban, one of the leading billionaires in the United States, and investment banker Anthony Scaramucci.
Musk stated in his announcement that the new party will emphasize “independence from the two-party system.” Following this statement, Mark Cuban responded to Musk’s post with emojis congratulating him and offered technical support for the election process.
Cuban stated that he is currently working with the “Center for Competitive Democracy” and that he can help America Party appear on the ballots in the states through this institution.
On the other hand, Anthony Scaramucci, who briefly served as the White House Communications Director in the Trump administration, directly responded to Musk’s post and stated that he requested a face-to-face meeting.
Scaramucci, who served during Trump’s first term, later parted ways with Trump and supported both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2024 election process. Mark Cuban was also among those who supported Harris in the past and was once considered a potential candidate for vice president.
Musk’s political move came after the recent open tension between him and Donald Trump. In a post he shared on X, he stated that the America Party aims to win “two or three Senate seats and eight to ten House seats” in the first phase. This statement shows that the new formation is not just a symbolic move, but a search for concrete representation in the political arena.
However, there are still some uncertainties about the party’s legal status. There are several documents in the public records of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that refer to Musk’s America Party. However, the validity of these documents and their direct connection to Musk are not clear.
The same documents also include references that are clearly humorous, such as “The Diddy Party,” “The DOGE Party,” and “American Meme Party.” This suggests that some of the applications made on behalf of the America Party may be jokes or fake attempts.
After purchasing Twitter in 2022, Elon Musk changed the platform’s name to X, then merged the company with his own artificial intelligence initiative xAI. Musk is becoming an increasingly prominent figure in political and cultural debates, and is now attempting to create a new dynamic in US domestic politics by directly establishing a political party. Whether or not the America Party will be officially established and which names it will include will become clear in the coming period.
