Turkey is undergoing a significant transformation in internet usage. According to data from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), the number of fiber internet subscribers surpassed 8.3 million for the first time in the first quarter of 2025. This represents a 19.1 percent increase compared to the previous year and is a first in the history of fiber internet subscriptions in Turkey. The total number of broadband subscribers also increased by 1.9 percent, reaching 95,966,203.
Turkey’s fiber internet subscriber count breaks a record
In detail, more than 7 million of the 8.3 million fiber subscribers are using fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). This demonstrates the growing need for high-speed internet among households.

Mobile internet is also rapidly increasing. The number of mobile internet subscribers increased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 74.5 million. This figure represents a significant portion of the total broadband subscribers.
Meanwhile, the decline in XDSL subscribers, the older technology, continues. The number of XDSL subscribers decreased by 6.9 percent to 9,988,000. This data clearly demonstrates that users are migrating from copper cable infrastructure to more modern technologies like fiber.
Turkey’s fiber infrastructure continues to grow. Fiber length, which was 568,000 kilometers last year, increased by 8.8 percent in the first quarter of this year, reaching 618,000 kilometers. A large portion of this length consists of access lines that connect internet to end users.
Regarding speed preferences, a large portion of subscribers prefer higher-speed packages. 40.5 percent of subscribers use packages between 24 and 50 Mbps, while 32 percent use packages of 50 Mbps or more. This indicates that internet speed expectations in Turkey are rising.
However, Turkey lags behind the OECD average. Fixed broadband penetration by population is 24.1 percent, while the OECD average is 36.3 percent. This difference is even more pronounced in mobile applications. Mobile internet penetration, which is 87.9 percent in Turkey, is 137.8 percent in OECD countries.
In terms of market share, the three largest internet service providers are TTNet, Superonline, and VodafoneNet.
