Docking is complete! The first Turkish astronaut entered the ISS!
Turkey’s space adventure started today. The Turkish Space Agency, which has become popular especially in recent times, is now officially starting its space studies.
The Dragon capsule carrying Alper Gezeravcı and his friends successfully completed its docking mission. After docking, activity began on the International Space Station. The team on active duty at the station welcomed the first Turkish astronaut and his friends to go into space with the Dragon capsule.
After the docking moments broadcast live, the cameras turned inside the International Space Station. After the exciting wait, Alper Gezeravcı appeared in front of the cameras. In the first statement made in space, Alper Gezeravcı said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the valuable Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms who established the Republic of Turkey and entrusted it to us, to all our martyrs who gave their lives for this country, to our state with its strong will that enabled us to step here, and to our nation for providing us with these opportunities.” He ended his speech with Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s words, “The future is in the skies.”
Alper Gezeravcı, who will carry out 13 scientific experiments during his stay in space, will operate in fields such as biology, medicine, material science and genetics. A welcome ceremony will be held for the astronauts at 14.30 after docking. Then, a total of 11 astronauts in the station will begin their work. Alper Gezeravcı, who will stay in space for 14 days, will leave the station with the Dragon capsule after completing his mission.
