Apple has made major changes to comply with the Digital Services Act (DMA) passed in the European Parliament. While alternative application stores to the App Store are allowed, Epic Games announced that it will offer its own store to iOS. This shows that Fortnite can be played on iPhone again after four years.
Fortnite can be played on iPhone via Epic Games Store
Epic Games announced that Fortnite will return to iOS devices. This decision, taken after Europe’s DMA law, will be accessible only to users in Europe in the first stage.
Epic Games and Apple have been in litigation for a long time. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney was opposing the company’s in-app purchase system and 30 percent commission. In response, it removed Fortnite from the App Store in 2020.
While Epic lost its lawsuit against Apple in the US, it seems to have been successful in Europe. It led to Apple having to relax some App Store policies. Accordingly, iPhone users in Europe will now be able to download applications from third-party application stores.
Epic Games, which wants to benefit from this decision, will offer its own application store, Epic Games Store, for iOS. It will be possible to install Fortnite on iPhone through this store after four years. However, it is unclear whether Fortnite will return to iOS in regions outside Europe.

iPhone players who are not in the EU can play Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming or GeForce Now. However, the latest development has revealed the pressure that big companies can put on Apple’s market dominance.
