As smartphones become more expensive, users want to invest in a device that can withstand drops and impacts. Fortunately, experts conduct tests that help us determine which phones are more durable. Recently, the YouTube channel PhoneBuff compared the Samsung S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max in a durability test. The results showed that the S23 Ultra is more durable than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is more durable than Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max!
Both Samsung and Apple have strong patents and durability certifications that meet international standards. However, the S23 Ultra proved to be more durable in the test results. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has Armor Aluminium frames on both the front and back and uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to protect both sides of the device.
These materials make the S23 Ultra the most durable smartphone Samsung has produced to date, and the brand has emphasized its durability from the moment it was introduced. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has Ceramic Shield Glass coating on both the front and back, and Apple also protects the corners of the phone with stainless steel frames.
The corners are designed to be softened, which helps distribute the impact of a hit and prevent damage. Both phones have the same level of durability against water and dust, with an IP68 certification, which means both devices can withstand liquid up to a maximum depth of 6 meters for 30 minutes.
In the test, the phones were dropped on a concrete surface with the back cover hitting the ground. The iPhone 14 Pro Max’s back cover was severely damaged, with a dent in the camera lens. In contrast, the S23 Ultra had small cracks near the corners. In the second test, the phones were dropped on concrete with the frames hitting the ground.
The 14 Pro Max’s frames had several small scratches, while the S23 Ultra’s corners sustained significant damage. In the third test, both phones were dropped on the concrete screen-first. The screens of both devices were shattered, but the Face ID on the iPhone and the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the S23 Ultra continued to function properly.
Finally, in the last test, both phones were dropped on a metal surface. Both screens were shattered, but the protective glass on the 14 Pro Max was missing in some areas, causing some light issues in the camera. In contrast, the S23 Ultra was more durable, with the back glass remaining intact.
