The commission issue between Apple and Epic Games over in-app purchases, which started in 2020, has been settled recently. Apple and Epic recently announced that the issue has been resolved and Fortnite will be coming back soon. Today, European Union users can now download the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to their iPhone and iPad devices.
European Union users can now play Fortnite
In recent months, Apple’s iOS 17.5 update allowed users in the European Union to install apps on their iPhones and iPads directly from developers’ own sites. According to reports today, Apple has approved Epic Games’ third-party Epic Games Store. Apple will now allow users in the European Union to install the Epic Games Store on their devices and play Fortnite. The company submitted the app to Apple earlier this week and said it was rejected three times.
The company says it was rejected three times, claiming that the install button and in-app purchase tags were too similar to Apple’s own elements for the App Store. In response to Apple’s move, Epic says it has filed a complaint with the Council of the European Union for arbitrary interference and violating the DMA (European Union Digital Markets Act).
The 4-year long problem between Apple and Epic Games has been resolved with the DMA law for European Union users. However, the two companies have not yet made a statement for users outside the European Union region. It is expected that the problem between Apple and Epic Games will be resolved for all countries in the near future.
