The Crown, the popular Netflix series developed by Peter Morgan, concluded last year, leaving behind a total of 6 seasons and 60 episodes. Produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, the historical drama series offers a gripping story centered on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Although this fascinating story of the royal family, full of conflict and betrayal, ends with a finale, it looks like it will expand with new spin-off projects very soon.
Nearly a year after the show’s six-season storyline came to an end, showrunner Andy Harries said that the story of the British royal family is not yet complete and could expand much further. Harries’ comments hinted that The Crown could continue under other series or movies with new stories focusing on the past.
The producer of The Crown series gave good news for spin-offs
Speaking to the BBC’s The Media Show, producer Andy Harries said that there could be spin-offs of The Crown because it is an “open-ended subject” and has a lot of potential to be explored in new projects.
Harries, who is not only the executive producer of The Crown but also the founder of Left Bank Pictures, which financed the series, said that they were lucky to get a deal during Netflix’s first term. He said Netflix allowed them to retain the rights to the series, which opened up many opportunities for them.
Harries said, “I can assure you that our deal with Netflix has been very, very beneficial for us. It gives us the opportunity at some point to think about what to do more with The Crown. Obviously, it’s an open-ended topic. We can go back and continue the story. We’ve done six seasons so far, we’ve covered a very specific period of sixty years. But there are so many more stories to tell,” he said, making it almost clear that The Crown spin-offs are coming.
