Google is taking a long-awaited step forward in smart home technologies: a new AI-powered voice assistant called “Gemini for Home” is coming to Google Home devices in October. This new system will replace Google Assistant in both free and paid versions and will be available on Nest speakers and displays.
Google Home Gains Gemini Integration
The new assistant offers a more advanced experience for everyday tasks like smart lights, music, timers, and home automation. Google states that the voice command will remain “Hey Google,” and that the system will work seamlessly with all devices in the home. It can also be used with family members and guests.

Anish Kattukaran, head of Google Home and Nest products, says Gemini for Home will be a “fundamentally new experience.” Thanks to Google’s most advanced models, the Assistant better understands context, intent, and nuances. This allows for more accurate results with natural commands like “Turn off all the lights except my bedroom” or “Set a timer for the perfect time to boil broccoli.”
Another key innovation is Gemini Live integration. This feature allows users to have more fluid conversations without having to constantly say “Hey Google.” It allows for much more personalized and creative assistance, from recipes to home repairs, from shopping planning to telling children stories.
Google hasn’t yet announced pricing for the paid plan. However, advanced features are expected to be included in the premium package. As you may recall, Amazon recently launched the AI-powered Alexa Plus.
Google is likely to implement a similar strategy and add the new system to its Google One or Nest Aware plans. The company adds that the rollout, which will begin in October, will be gradual, meaning it won’t be available to all users at once.
