Google continues to review its services. Google Podcasts, which was canceled for users in the US in the past months, will be shut down globally very soon. All services offered in the Podcasts app will be included in YouTube Music. Thus, the end of Podcasts will come.
Google Podcasts will be shut down globally in June
Google has made a few updates to the support article for its Podcasts app. It said that the app will no longer be available for “users outside the United States” starting in June. Users will have the option to export their data from the app.
Google will give users until July 29 to export their podcast subscriptions and listening history. After this period, it will not be possible to access any podcasts.
Google’s decision follows the end of support for Podcasts on Android, iOS and the web in April. Instead, the tech giant started inviting users to YouTube Music. However, YouTube Music lacks some important features, such as notifications for new episodes and a “played” marker.
Some users feel that the discontinuation of Google Podcasts was too early. YouTube Music is not a dedicated podcast app and lacks many features. Google promised that YouTube Music would be improved during this process, but so far no major updates have been made.
It is not yet clear whether the shutdown will happen region by region or all over the world at the same time. But it is possible to say that Podcasts will be completely canceled by June.
