Google Meet, with its constantly increasing functionality, has become more intricate over time. However, the tech giant is now simplifying things for its users. Google’s video communication service, Google Meet, has undergone a recent upgrade. The update aims to simplify access to key video features via a new quick action menu.
Introducing a more user-friendly interface
Simply hovering over your video feed on the web interface now reveals options to pin, utilize video effects such as filters and immersive backgrounds, and more. There is an overflow menu that provides options like “Remove this tile”, “Minimize”, and “Reframe”. The latter is particularly useful for enhancing your on-screen presence or zooming in on specific areas of interest. All these features have been streamlined for easier access, offering a more convenient alternative to searching within the bottom toolbar’s overflow button.
Transitioning towards more user-friendly options, Google now offers reframing as a feature for a broad array of its service users. This includes subscribers to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning upgrade, and Workspace Individual customers.In addition, Google One Subscribers with a minimum of 2TB storage space also have access to this feature.
Refocusing the meeting view
A noteworthy addition is the ability to disable video feeds of other participants using the new overlay. Google Meet’s updated web interface states, “This can be helpful in situations where you want to focus your meeting view to just the presenter or hide participants with distracting video feeds.”
This new quick action menu on Google Meet’s web platform is open to all Google Workspace customers and is scheduled for a gradual rollout over the next few weeks.
