Google is adding the “Ultra HDR” tool to the Google Photos app to improve the mobile photo editing experience. Offered to Android devices, this tool allows photos taken in the past to be re-edited to make them more vivid and detailed.
Google Photos will offer an Ultra HDR editing tool
The Ultra HDR tool comes with version 7.24 of Google Photos. Users can activate this new format via the “Settings” menu of the application. Ultra HDR, which replaces the previous HDR effect, can be used not only in newly taken frames but also in old photos in the archive.

Technically preserving the JPEG extension but having a different structure in its content, the Ultra HDR format gives photos more light, contrast and depth. While this effect is fully visible on HDR-supported screens, images are displayed in standard format on non-HDR screens.
A slider is offered to the user in the Ultra HDR editing tool. The intensity of the effect can be manually adjusted with the help of this slider. However, it was also stated that if the effect is applied excessively, artificiality may occur in the images.
Whether a photo is in Ultra HDR format can be checked from the image detail screen. If the photo’s resolution information section says “Ultra HDR”, that image has been processed with this new format.
The update, which is being rolled out widely, will reach more devices soon. So what do you think about this? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
