Google Pixel Watch 2 will be unveiled at a launch event in the fall. However, important information about the design of the smartwatch has emerged before the launch. Leaked information in the US showed that the watch will have a new metal band.
Google Pixel Watch 2 may not support Ultra-Wideband Technology
New legal filings to the FCC by Google have surfaced. The application for a smartwatch believed to be the Pixel Watch 2 showed that the watch will have three different models: Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, LTE and global LTE.
The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model bears the FCC ID G4TSL. One of the reports on this model showed that Google evaluated the watch with four different bands during testing. These bands included plastic, metal mesh, metal and a new thin metal.
The thin metal version seems to be an option not offered with the first-generation Pixel Watch. It is expected to be thinner and lighter than the current metal band.
It is noteworthy that there is no indication of ultra-wideband (UWB) support on the Pixel Watch 2 in the FCC application. Even if it’s not enabled by Google by default, the UWB feature needs to be officially documented. This technology is used for wireless communication and geolocation.
Pixel Watch 2 applications are one of Google’s new indications that it will be released in the fall along with the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. Pricing, colors and specifications will be officially announced at the fall launch.
