Google continues to cancel old apps. The last of the company’s renewal efforts affected the Google Podcasts application. With the announcement from the technology giant, Podcasts was completely moved to YouTube Music.
Google Podcasts is gone, YouTube Music is here
Google officially ended its support for Podcasts in March. In this context, it stated that it would give users a certain period of time to move their subscriptions and listening history to YouTube Music.
This month, the tech giant sent a notice to Podcasts app users, warning that the app would be officially shut down. Accordingly, it announced that podcasts will be moved to YouTube Music by April 2. After this date, it will not be possible to access the Podcasts app.
Google’s Podcasts app, launched 5 years ago, has been downloaded more than 500 million times on Android devices worldwide. But last September, the company decided to consolidate its audio apps into YouTube Music. In this context, it announced that Podcasts would also be phased out.
YouTube Music recently gained support for podcast RSS uploads and podcast-only playback. This paved the way for Google to retire Podcasts and shift users to YouTube.
Moving the podcast service entirely to YouTube could help Google become a bigger player in the industry. Users will have until July to export their Podcast subscriptions and listening history.
