Although the release date of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is officially announced as fall 2025, news from the industry suggests that the game may be delayed to 2026. Jason Schreier, a well-known name in the game world, expressed his concerns about this issue. Details in our news…
GTA 6 release may be delayed until 2026
It’s been 10 years since the release of GTA 5 and GTA 6 was first officially announced in February 2022. Following this announcement, however, Rockstar released only a single trailer and did not share any detailed information. During the height of anticipation, the company hinted that new trailers would be coming soon, but those expectations often ended in disappointment.
Last December, speculation grew that a second trailer was coming, but it never materialized, much to the disappointment of fans. Jason Schreier, in his analysis of the 2025 gaming industry for Bloomberg, stated that he doesn’t think GTA 6 will make its announced release date. Schreier stated that the development process of the game may take longer due to Rockstar Games’ policy of “avoiding the pressure of overworking its employees”. Schreier also said:
“ROCKSTAR GAMES IS DEVELOPING A GAME THAT IS BOTH BIG AND EXTREMELY AMBITIOUS. THE PRESSURE ON THEM TO MAKE IT PERFECT IS ENORMOUS. THAT’S WHY I THINK IT WILL BE PUSHED BACK TO 2026.”
On Reddit and other online platforms, discussions about GTA 6’s delay have gained momentum. While some users have expressed disappointment that they’ve heard rumors of the game not meeting its internal target dates, others believe Rockstar will stick to its announced fall 2025 date.
Jason Schreier also stated that the performance of Ubisoft’s new game Assassin’s Creed Shadows will determine the future of the company. It was emphasized that Ubisoft is at a critical threshold during this period. How do you think the postponement of GTA 6 to 2026 will affect the expectations on the gaming community?
