Released with great hopes by NetEase and Warner Bros Entertainment and expected to attract the attention of Harry Potter fans, the free card game Magic Awakened is becoming history before it even completes a year. Here are the latest information and details…
Harry Potter Magic Awakened Failed to Attract Attention
Warner Bros. has announced that Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will be shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29, 2024. The game, which was released worldwide just a year ago, was a huge hit, especially on mobile platforms.
Magic Awakened’s failure to gain traction in the western market and issues such as its complicated account system appear to have accelerated the game’s closure. Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was first released on mobile devices in China and Taiwan in 2021.
A limited PC version of the game was also released for Windows when it went global in July 2023. However, this version was limited to servers in Southeast Asia only. Due to Warner Bros.’ different account systems, players outside of those regions were unable to link their mobile accounts to the PC version, marking the beginning of the end.
Magic Awakened has been removed from the App Store and Google Play, and in-app purchases have also been suspended. Players will be able to continue enjoying the game until October 29. However, there may be a small glimmer of hope for PC gamers: the servers managed by NetEase will likely continue to operate, and some players outside of Asia may still be able to access the game through these servers.
