Honda is relaunching its legendary Prelude after a 25-year hiatus. The new Prelude, which goes on sale in 2026, returns as a 200-horsepower coupe equipped with hybrid powertrain technology. Initially introduced in Japan, the vehicle will have a starting price of 6.18 million yen (approximately $41,600).
The Honda Prelude is back
The new Prelude uses a hybrid system that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, producing 232 lb-ft of torque. This system is similar to the technology used in the Civic Hybrid. The front-wheel-drive coupe combines Honda’s sporty spirit with up-to-date technologies.

Honda describes the vehicle as “fun driving focused.” One of the most striking innovations is the artificial shift mode called S+ Shift. This feature simulates virtual gear changes, giving drivers a sporty feel.
The system also rev-matches during downshifts. It also enhances the driver’s experience with enhanced engine sounds. Honda developed this technology to deliver a traditional sports car experience even in the electric age.
The vehicle’s cabin is packed with modern technology. A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen come standard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support are also available. Google Assistant and Google Maps are also integrated. The vehicle comes with unlimited data and a Wi-Fi hotspot for three years. A wireless charging station is also available for phones.
The sound system is by Bose. A premium eight-speaker system is offered, with 6.5-inch speakers in the doors and a large subwoofer in the trunk. The return of the Honda Prelude holds a nostalgic significance, especially for those who drove it in the 1980s.
At the time, the Prelude was an affordable sports car priced around 1.5 million yen and was popular with young people. The target audience of the new model is users in their 50s and 60s who are looking for a sporty car again, as well as all car enthusiasts.
