Chinese technology giant Huawei and automotive manufacturer Chery announced the start of a new era for their joint brand, Luxeed. As part of the new cooperation agreement recently signed between the two companies, the Luxeed brand is moving into its second phase with an investment exceeding 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.4 billion). As a significant part of the investment, the brand’s R&D team is being expanded to 5,000 people.
Huawei and Chery Collaborate
As part of the new investment, Huawei and Chery announced the establishment of a new energy vehicle company dedicated to Luxeed. The company’s production, sales, and after-sales services will be conducted completely independently of Chery, aiming to provide a more holistic customer experience. According to the company’s statement, the product range will be expanded, and several new models are planned to be launched as part of this partnership.

Luxeed, developed in collaboration with Huawei and Chery, launched its first model on November 28, 2023. The process, which began with the all-electric Luxeed S7 sedan, continued with the Luxeed R7, unveiled on September 24, 2024. The R7 became Huawei’s first SUV developed under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) platform. Updated versions of both models will be available for pre-sale on August 8. The official launch of the S7 and R7 will be in September.
Luxeed’s next step is to enter the MPV segment. According to Chinese sources, the brand is currently working on its first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Codenamed “EHV,” this model is expected to be built on Chery’s E0X-L platform and will be the first MPV under the HIMA umbrella.
Huawei and Chery, who have quickly established a prominent position in China’s new energy vehicle market with the Luxeed brand, are taking the competition to a new level with this new wave of investments. Developed with a fully electric, technologically advanced and software-driven automotive approach, the models stand out particularly for their integration with Huawei’s hardware and software solutions. The newly established independent structure is also considered a preparatory phase for the brand’s expansion into the global market. Through Luxeed, Huawei and Chery are preparing to establish a presence not only in the Chinese market but also on a global scale.
