Huawei is gearing up for a return to its old days in the smartphone world. The Chinese manufacturer is expected to launch the Mate 60 series this fall, possibly in October or November. Finally, photos showing the final version of the device have been shared.

Huawei Mate 60 to be powered by SMIC-made 5G chipset, run HarmonyOS 4

Huawei has started the countdown for the Mate 60. Images from China revealed that the Mate 60 will have a dual-tone back. With the new design, the Mate 60 will have frosted glass on the top and metal on the bottom. The circular camera module we have seen before will also be present in this model.

According to previous rumors, the Mate 60 will come with a 1220p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. More interestingly, Huawei is rumored to feature a pill-shaped setup on the front that houses dual selfie cameras and 3D depth sensors. The fact that HarmonyOS 4 has a Dynamic Island-like Live Window increases the likelihood of this claim.

The Mate 60 series will be powered by Huawei’s 5G chipset developed with SMIC. In this way, Huawei will overcome the 5G embargo imposed by the US and reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers. It is expected to come out of the box with HarmonyOS 4 and improvements such as Live Window.

The Mate 60 series represents Huawei’s effort to deliver flagships despite US restrictions. The smartphone, which will include radical changes in both hardware and software, will be unveiled in the coming months.
