Hyundai and Kia are trying to prevent theft problems that have been going on since 2021. However, no matter how many software updates the companies share, theft rates are still high. Here are the latest developments in Kia and Hyundai…
Hyundai and Kia’s theft software has worked to a great extent!
The theft issue of Hyundai and Kia branded vehicles, which went viral with a video on social media in 2021, has been going on for three years. Both companies have prepared the necessary software updates for vehicles that can be easily stolen due to security problems. With this software, cars that only work with the original key and its copy continue to be stolen at a high rate. Because the software is not applied to all vehicles.
A study conducted by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) shows that theft rates in vehicles that receive software updates from automobile manufacturers have decreased by half, but the overall numbers are still very high. Stating that 53 percent lower theft claims are encountered with the new software compared to the old software, HLDI achieved a 64 percent success rate in general.
The software produced for the problem, which was seen between the 2011 and 2022 models of both vehicles, is only compatible with 7 million of the 9 million vehicles on the road. In this case, only 30 percent of Hyundai models received the update. Kia’s is 28 percent. In other words, a large portion of the vehicles still have not received the security update.
In this case, although the update is largely a solution, theft cases are still frequently encountered. Not only vehicle theft, but also part theft is frequently encountered. Although both companies are trying to solve the problem, thousands of vehicles are still vulnerable. Let’s see when exactly Hyundai and Kia will solve the problem.
