The second model of the IONIQ series, Hyundai IONIQ 6 boasts a longer range with a new design
Hyundai Motor Company, committed to produce electric vehicles under the brand IONIQ, is now on the stage of Europe with the second model in the series: IONIQ 6. Compeletely redesigned IONIQ 6 has a longer range with single charge (614 kilometers, company claims) and is more efficient with a friction coefficient of 0.21cd.
Produced under the Hyundai branded E-GMP platform, the second model uses a streamlined design under the Hyundai’s Electrified Streamliner product line. Offering a number of technological advances and personalization options, the IONIQ 6 boasts a single charge range of 614 kilometers (380 miles) using then Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) ultra fast charging, with options of 400 V or 800 V chargers.
The design of the new series is mainly aerodynamic, with active air vent, tire air barriers, integrated spoiler and tire gap reducers contributing the style and low friction rate of the car. Customers will have the option of choosing between 11 different body colors.
The cocoon-shaped interior of the IONIQ 6 not only offers a comfortable seating area but also includes many details that will be useful in daily use. It has been developed with practical features and sustainable materials to facilitate a superior mobility experience and an eco-friendly lifestyle.
While a long wheelbase of 2,950 mm draws attention in the car, Hyundai designers’ use of optimized knee distance that makes the occupants comfortable is also a plus point. Enlarging the interior, front and rear sections to create more spaciousness, the engineers offer maximum comfort on long or short journeys with a completely flat floor.
The user-oriented interior architecture of the model stands out with a centrally positioned ergonomic control unit to reduce distraction and promote safe driving. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster with touchscreen and the 12.3-inch full-touch infotainment display emphasize digitization. The bridge-type center console also provides extremely useful and generous storage space.
More power, more range
The IONIQ 6 is available with a variety of motors and battery packs to meet the needs of every customer without sacrificing performance. Users can choose between two different battery options. The long-range 77.4 kWh battery is paired with two electric motor arrangements. The car, which can be chosen as rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), depending on the strategy of the markets in which it will be sold, exhibits values such as 239 kW (325 PS) and 605 Nm torque thanks to the best-in-class dual engine setup. Thanks to this powerful electric (PE) configuration, the IONIQ 6, which does not look like a sports car, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.1 seconds.
IONIQ 6’s superior E-GMP architecture can support 400 and 800 volt charging infrastructures as standard. The car can also use the 400-volt charge without any need for additional components or adapters. The IONIQ 6 can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes with an ultra-fast 350 kW charger and can reach a range of 351 km in a 15-minute charging session.
Using the vehicle’s internal battery, IONIQ 6 users can charge any electrical device such as an electric bike, scooter or camping equipment or run it instantly whenever they want.
Security and comfort
The IONIQ 6 is equipped with the next level of Hyundai Smart Sense technology, the brand’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, providing the ultimate in safety and comfort while driving.
Using an advanced front view camera, “Highway Driving Assistant 2- (HDA 2)” helps the vehicle to keep a certain distance from the vehicle in front while driving and to increase or decrease its speed when necessary. This system, which helps the vehicle to center in the lane even when cornering, can also assist the driver when changing lanes. HDA 2 also enables the IONIQ 6 to achieve Level 2 autonomous driving.
