Instagram has officially launched its new video editing application ‘Edits’. The application, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android platforms, will be a direct competitor to CapCut developed by TikTok owner ByteDance.
Video editing app ‘Edits’ launched
Instagram describes Edits as ‘a video creation tool built for creators’. The app not only provides basic editing tools, but also advanced functionality for creators, such as project management, idea tracking and analysing video performance.

Features that are not available in Instagram’s own application, such as green screen support, object cut out, and animation generation from static images with artificial intelligence, are among the tools offered by Edits.
Video editing options within the application are largely similar to CapCut. However, Meta executives stated that Edits will differentiate over time. It is rumoured that much wider creative tools will be offered compared to CapCut.
Instagram plans to add more features to the application in the future. Among the innovations the company is working on are keyframe animations, advanced artificial intelligence editing tools and video collaboration between users.
Meta’s move was made even more remarkable by the introduction of Edits just after TikTok and CapCut were briefly removed from app stores in the US at the end of 2024.
Edits is currently available completely free of charge. There is no subscription system or payment barrier in the application. So what do you think about this application? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
