iOS 18 is a major update for iPhone users. However, this update also brings many new features for Apple’s latest headphone model AirPods Pro 2. These new features, which can be used with iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS Sequoia, will meet users with the software update Apple will release in the fall.
Here are 6 new features coming to AirPods Pro 2!
Control with head gestures
No more voice commands or using your hands to answer Siri or reject a call. Head gestures offer a new way to control AirPods Pro.
When you receive a call, you can nod your head no to reject the call or nod yes to accept it. The same gestures can be used to control Siri.
Sound isolation
Sound Isolation enables AirPods Pro to reduce loud background noises during phone calls, so the person you’re talking to can hear you more clearly.
Using machine learning, the feature detects and isolates ambient noise such as wind, nearby cars and people talking.
Better adaptive volume controls
Adaptive Noise Control is designed to adjust Active Noise Cancellation and the sound you hear in response to ambient noise.
With iOS 18, this feature comes with more granular controls, so it can be adjusted to let more or less noise through.
Personalized spatial audio for games
Personalized Spatial Audio is a feature already available for movies, TV shows and music. It uses your iPhone’s TrueDepth camera to scan your face and ears and create a customized profile.
With iOS 18, Apple is extending this feature to games, so you can enjoy a more immersive audio experience when you play.
Sound quality in games
AirPods Pro 2 improve audio quality for in-game chat and streaming.
It also supports dynamic head tracking and 16-bit 48kHz audio in games.
Lower latency
AirPods Pro offer the best wireless audio latency for mobile gaming, according to Apple.
Thanks to improvements in iOS 18, you’ll experience virtually no delay in hearing the result of an action in games.
Many of these features are limited to the latest AirPods Pro models. Features like head movements and Sound Isolation will only be available on AirPods Pro 2. However, some innovations, such as Personalized Spatial Audio for games, will be available on other models, such as AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and third-generation AirPods.
