Apple’s new flagship iPhone 16 Pro looks set to deliver a major leap in internet speed, along with some impressive camera and display improvements. Early tests on the device suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro can reach download speeds up to 26% faster than its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro.
iPhone 16 Pro will fly with 5G
Apple aims to provide users with the best possible connection experience by using the latest Snapdragon modems in its latest iPhone models, as it does every year. Apple, which has also worked with Intel on modem supply in the past, started using Qualcomm chips after Intel sold its modem division.
Not only the data speeds of the iPhone 16 Pro, but also its energy consumption are significantly improved thanks to Qualcomm’s new modem. Lower energy consumption also has a positive impact on the device’s battery life. The Snapdragon X75 aims to make data processing more efficient, allowing iPhone users to use their devices for longer periods of time.
SpeedSmart tests show that the iPhone 16 Pro averaged download speeds of over 400 Mbps on major US carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro reached speeds of 324 Mbps on Verizon and 376 Mbps on T-Mobile. On AT&T’s network, the iPhone 16 Pro averaged download speeds of 296 Mbps, while the iPhone 15 Pro hit 214 Mbps on the same network.
Apple continues to work on developing its own 5G modem for the iPhone SE model, which is expected to be introduced in 2025. However, since the company’s modem agreement with Qualcomm will continue until 2027, it is not expected to abandon the use of Qualcomm modems anytime soon.
