Apple is preparing to offer reverse wireless charging with the iPhone 17 Pro models. According to information from Chinese sources, the company is testing this feature on its new phones. If enabled, users will be able to wirelessly charge accessories like AirPods and Apple Watch by using their iPhone 17 Pro as a power source.
iPhone 17 Pro to Offer Reverse Wireless Charging
This isn’t the first rumor about reverse wireless charging. In February, Instant Digital claimed that Apple was testing 7.5W reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 Pro. This feature could be used to charge accessories like the MagSafe Battery Pack.

In fact, Apple partially introduced reverse charging capabilities to users in 2021. When the MagSafe Battery Pack was released for the iPhone 12 and later models, the iPhone could transfer power to the power pack while charging via Lightning.
This marked the first time an iPhone had ever delivered power to an accessory. However, Apple discontinued the MagSafe Battery Pack with the iPhone 15 series. The new iPhone 15 and later models can reverse charge devices like the Apple Watch and AirPods at up to 4.5W via the USB-C port. However, reverse wireless charging hasn’t been available since then.
If these latest claims prove true, users will be able to wirelessly charge their Apple Watch and AirPods using their iPhones without the need for a cable. Analyst Mark Gurman predicted that a USB-C compatible MagSafe Battery Pack would return “sooner or later” in September 2023, but added a warning: “Don’t get your hopes up.” The validity of these claims will become clear at next month’s launch.
