Apple is switching to 12 GB RAM for the first time with the iPhone 17 series, which is expected to be introduced in the fall of 2025. However, according to the latest information, this high memory capacity will only be available in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

This RAM upgrade, which is seen as an important step in terms of advanced multitasking functions, gaming performance and productive artificial intelligence applications, is largely undertaken by Samsung.

According to information shared in the South Korean press, Samsung will meet 70% of the DRAM modules ordered by Apple. The company has long been the main manufacturer providing OLED screens for iPhones. Now, it will also assume the role of the largest hardware supplier of the iPhone 17 Pro in memory production.
It was stated that the remaining 30% memory need will be met by SK hynix and Micron. It is stated that SK hynix will carry out production with LG Innotek, and Micron with Japan-based Shinko Electric.
The base models of the iPhone 17 series, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, will continue to be released with 8 GB of RAM. However, famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that due to possible disruptions in Apple’s DRAM supply chain, only the base iPhone 17 model may have 8 GB of RAM, while the Air model may switch to 12 GB.
