Apple is moving iPhone production from China to India. The company changed its plans after the US-China economic war and invited its giant partners to different countries. However, in addition to regional crises, even weather events are enough to affect iPhone production.

iPhone factory shut down by floods in India

Apple’s two major suppliers, Foxconn and Pegatron, have been affected by bad weather in India. It was stated that there were heavy rains due to the regional cyclone and their factories in Chennai were closed. This resulted in the suspension of iPhone production.

Foxconn, which has approximately 35 thousand employees in its iPhone production facility, did not share information on when production will resume. Sources familiar with the matter said that the factory stopped its activities due to heavy rains hitting the region.

Taiwanese manufacturer Pegatron has also halted iPhone assembly at its plant. This represents Pegatron’s second shutdown in recent months, after a fire forced it to close its factory in September.

Cyclone events in India have caused widespread service disruption, from floodwaters washing away vehicles to airport closures. The torrential downpour has hit technology assemblies, particularly iPhone factories.

As Apple tries to shift production away from China, Foxconn is rapidly expanding its investments in India. Market data reveals that Apple shipped over 2.5 million iPhones from India last quarter.
