GTA 6, which has become a focal point in the gaming world and will be released on May 26, 2026, barring another delay, continues the series’ tradition and will once again be set within the United States. The game will be set in Leonida, inspired by the US state of Florida. This seems highly unlikely to change in future games and additional content.
GTA set outside the US may not be released
Dan Houser, founder of Rockstar Games and who has led the GTA series for many years with his brother Sam Houser, made important statements about the GTA series in a podcast. Houser also gave a clear answer to the question fans have been wondering, “Will we ever see a GTA game set outside the US?”

Houser acknowledged that they had previously taken a similar step with GTA London for the PS1, but stated that such a project is unlikely to be developed again. According to Houser, American culture is the essence and spirit of the GTA series.
Every aspect of GTA, including the liberal use of weapons and the series’ edgy characters, reflects American society. Therefore, Houser believes that this defining spirit of GTA cannot be preserved in a game set in another country.
Dan Houser stated that this issue was discussed during his time as an executive at Rockstar Games, and ultimately, they decided that a GTA game set outside the US was not appropriate for the series’ structure.
Even though the Houser brothers have left Rockstar Games, Houser’s argument is quite compelling. As the former Rockstar executive noted, American culture, with all its good and bad aspects, forms the DNA of GTA and is considered the foundation of the series.
