The foldable smartphone market has been growing for years. Although Samsung is by far the market leader, Huawei has achieved unexpected successes. It is even said that the company could overtake Samsung this year.
Huawei could be the foldable smartphone leader in 2024
According to a new report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the foldable phone market saw significant growth in the last quarter of 2023. Foldable smartphone shipments increased 33 percent year-on-year to 4.2 million units.
This figure also showed that it was the biggest fourth quarter ever. However, market leader Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 sales fell short of expectations. Despite this performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 remained the best-selling foldable models in the last quarter.
A total of 23 different foldable models were shipped during the period. Samsung had four models in the top 10, while Honor and OPPO had two devices. Huawei and Xiaomi completed the list with one model each.
Huawei and Honor were among the most striking brands of the quarter. The Mate X5 was the second best-selling phone after the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Honor Magic Vs2 was in the top five along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
