Apple may introduce an unexpected update to its iPad Air lineup. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant plans to skip the M3 chip in this year’s iPad Air model and use the M4 chip directly. So when will the new iPad arrive? What will it offer? Details in our news…
Apple may launch the new iPad Air model with M4 chip in spring 2025
Apple released iPad Air models with M2 chip last year and they were very popular. With 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes, the devices were highly appreciated in terms of performance. However, the iPad Air to be introduced this year may use the same processor as the iPad Pro models with the M4 chip. It is even rumored that this may cause the differences between iPad Air and iPad Pro to narrow. According to Gurman, Apple’s strategy of using chips in multiple models in the Mac series is becoming applicable to iPads as well.
Gurman’s report suggests that the new iPad Air will focus more on hardware improvements, but not major changes to the exterior design. In addition, the device is expected to use Apple’s in-house developed 5G modem. The same modem could be used in devices such as iPhone SE, low-cost iPad models and iPhone 17 Air, which will be released in 2025.
In the meantime, Apple is working on a new Magic Keyboard model for iPad Air. This keyboard is not expected to have an aluminum top cover like the iPad Pro version, but it is said to offer function keys and more features in terms of functionality.
