Qualcomm is preparing to update its naming strategy once again, following the Snapdragon 8 Elite branding introduced last year. The company’s upcoming flagship processor will launch as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
What will the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offer?
According to recent leaks, the chipset will feature two prime cores clocked at 4.61 GHz and six performance cores running at 3.63 GHz. On the graphics side, it will integrate the Adreno 840 GPU operating at 1.2 GHz. The processor was previously spotted in Geekbench tests, but new details suggest that Samsung will launch a special Galaxy S26 version running at a higher 4.74 GHz frequency.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to debut first in devices from Xiaomi, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, and Realme. These smartphones will initially use the standard 4.61 GHz variant, while the higher-frequency version will roll out to more brands later next year. Benchmark results show the chipset scoring over 4 million points on AnTuTu v11, with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 achieving similar results in the same test.
Qualcomm will officially unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at the Snapdragon Summit kicking off on September 23. MediaTek, meanwhile, is set to introduce its rival chipset a day earlier, on September 22. Apple will also take the stage on September 9 to announce the iPhone 17 lineup alongside the new A19 Pro chip. September is shaping up to be a major month for smartphone launches.
