Japan’s passion for space exploration is once again on the agenda with the new Moon mission of the Ispace company. Ispace is preparing to launch its second Moon lander, named Resilience, in December. The company plans to successfully land on the Moon in 2023 after its first failed landing attempt. The first attempt failed due to a software error, but this time the team is quite ambitious.

The lander will be launched from Florida on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and will attempt to land in the Mare Frigoris region on the visible surface of the Moon. Launching the lander is the first part of the job. The landing is planned to take place 4-5 months after the launch. So, we may have to keep our eyes on the sky for a while longer for this eagerly awaited mission.

This time the mission will not only include scientific experiments but also an artistic touch. A small rover named Tenacious will collect samples of regolith, the lunar soil, for NASA. In addition, experiments will be conducted on the Moon to separate water through electrolysis. As for the artistic side of the job; the artwork named “Moonhouse” by Swedish artist Mikael Genberg will also be included in this mission. With this artwork, an artwork will be exhibited on the Moon for the first time.

It is obvious how ambitious Japan is in lunar exploration. This mission, which combines both science and art, will perhaps be a big step in the commercial exploration of the Moon in the future.
