Automobile manufacturers have completed their preparations to introduce their new models at the Chengdu Motor Show in China next month. According to leaked information, Kia will unveil its compact electric SUV model EV5, which targets Tesla Model Y, to users.

Kia EV5 model will have a price tag of $40,000

Just one week after unveiling its flagship EV9, Kia introduced the new EV5 electric SUV concept model expanding into new segments in March. Compared to previous generations, Kia’s unique design features sharper lines, a powerful stance, and modern upgrades.

Karim Habib, Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center, said, “The EV5 model was designed to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions while inspiring our customers on every journey.” Although the production version is expected to have a different appearance with a more realistic setup in the interior, it is predicted that the exterior will be similar, as demonstrated by other concepts that have entered production.

According to a new report from The Korean Car Blog, the EV5 will be unveiled at the annual Chengdu Motor Show in China next month. The report confirms that the price of Kia’s new model will start at $40,000.

Sources indicate that the EV5 will be built on the 400V system instead of the 800V system used in other Hyundai Motor Group EVs operating on the E-GMP platform. This will enable Kia to offer its new model at a lower price.

The base version will have a larger battery capacity compared to the current Kia EV6 (77.4kWh) and will reach up to 82 kWh. It is expected that the long-range model will have a range of over 600 km (372 miles).

Kia EV5 directly targets Tesla’s Model Y. The Model Y starts at $37,000 in China with a CLTC range of 545 km. The long-range Model Y, which offers a range of 645 km, has a price tag of $44,000.
