Lexus has unveiled a completely different product from its previous models. By introducing the all-new LBX model, the Japanese manufacturer has entered a brand new segment. Lexus aims to expand its customer base with the new LBX model.
Lexus is quite ambitious with its B-SUV model
The new B-SUV model from Lexus will be available for sale in Europe starting from the first quarter of 2024. Following the UX, NX, RX, and fully electric RZ, the addition of the LBX to its product range will further expand Lexus’ SUV lineup.
The LBX combines new design and technological ideas with the Omotenashi hospitality philosophy. Lexus Europe led the development of a global model for the first time with the introduction of the LBX, paving the way for the brand’s entry into the B-SUV segment.
Finally, by using a three-letter naming convention reminiscent of the legendary LFA model, Lexus emphasizes the level of ambition it has put into the LBX. The brand, which aims to bring Lexus quality to a new segment, showcases its new identity with the LBX. With a more compact exterior compared to all previously produced Lexus models, the LBX stands out with its muscular and powerful appearance.
One of the most notable design elements of the LBX is the front section that reinterprets the “spindle grille” design that has marked the brand’s last 10 years and ushers Lexus into a new era. While reinterpreting the iconic front grille design, Lexus managed to create a design that instantly identifies the model as a Lexus.
The seamless and frameless front grille integrated with the headlights showcases a dynamic presence, combined with the spindle body design of the LBX. This aerodynamic and powerful design continues at the rear of the vehicle as part of Lexus’ new design language. The license plate is positioned under the bumper, and the LEXUS lettering is prominently placed on the trunk lid. Additionally, we see the latest version of the signature L-shaped strip lighting group, which has become a signature feature of Lexus’ new models, in the LBX model.
Built on the GA-B global architecture platform, the LBX is the first model to utilize it, entering the B-SUV segment with a length of 4,190 mm, width of 1,825 mm, height of 1,545 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The LBX model stands out with its low hood, clean lines, rear spoiler, and signals, emphasizing efficiency, driving balance, and performance.
Under the hood, we encounter a new-generation self-charging hybrid system, including a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, in the LBX. The redesigned and more compact full hybrid system enhances efficiency, producing a maximum power of 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 185 Nm. The LBX model, equipped with the new compact E-CVT transmission, features a new two-pole nickel-metal hydride battery that allows for a higher electric motor power during acceleration while increasing the capacity for fully electric driving. The LBX achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 9.2 seconds.
One of the most remarkable features of the LBX is its Lexus E-Four four-wheel drive option with an additional electric motor on the rear axle. This system automatically transfers power to the rear wheels to maintain vehicle balance during acceleration, cornering, and low-traction conditions.
Inside the cabin, we see that the Tazuna cockpit concept is also employed in the LBX model. This concept keeps up with today’s standards with the introduction of the new 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 9.8-inch infotainment system screen, both being used for the first time in Lexus.
Despite its compact size, the LBX also hosts Lexus’ latest driver assistance systems. It features the Lexus Safety System +, which includes comprehensive active safety and driver assistance systems, providing automatic steering, braking, and driving force control to detect and warn of collision risks and prevent collisions when necessary. The system includes Collision Prevention System working in conjunction with Intersection Turning Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Traffic Sign Detection System.
The Lexus LBX seems to bring a fresh perspective to the B-SUV segment with its design and technology. What are your thoughts on the new Lexus LBX? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
