LG is no longer in the smartphone market. However, this does not mean that the company does not develop technologies for other phone manufacturers. For example, today, LG Innotek, made a noise with the new version of the “Optical Zoom Camera”. This camera system was prepared for other companies to use and offers smartphones a zoom range of 4-9x.
There will be a smartphone with this camera system at CES 2023
This new camera system, is reported to be small in size. Also, provides lossless optical zoom from start to finish with moving elements in the selected range. In this way, zoom transitions become smooth and there is no loss of quality. Today, many companies build their phones on fixed lenses and fixed zoom ranges. The ranges are presented digitally by utilizing the sensor resolution. The new Optical Zoom Camera, which is said to be periscope-style, that is, built on horizontally positioned lenses and mirrors, works with millimeter precision according to the statement made by “Innotek”.
The system has built-in optical image stabilization, which improves the sharpness of handheld shots. The system, which is reported to have no negative effect on sensor resolution, has come to life in partnership with Qualcomm. Therefore, it is specifically compatible with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It is announced that there will be a smartphone with this camera system at CES 2023. However, no name is given for now.
Apple may use Optical Zoom Camera in iPhone 15 series
In the meantime, it is possible that Apple will also use the developed system in the iPhone 15 series coming in September 2023. It has long been claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max/iPhone 15 Ultra model will have a periscope camera unlike other phones. The periscope camera in question could be the Optical Zoom Camera by LG.
