MAN has started series production of electric trucks at its main factory in Munich. While the company has been more prominent in the electric bus sector until now, it has had a limited presence in the electric truck sector. The eTGM model developed in 2018 was the first serious step in this field.
MAN has started series production of electric trucks
With the new production system, both diesel and electric trucks are produced on the same production line. This system, called mixed production, works according to customer order order. This method accelerates the transition between diesel and electric models and enables flexible responses to market dynamics.

The maximum daily production capacity at the factory is limited to 100 trucks. The assembly time of each truck produced is stated as eight hours. It is planned to deliver 1000 electric trucks to customers by the end of the year.
MAN’s new generation electric trucks are offered under the names eTGX, eTGS and eTGL. These models use the same platform as the current diesel trucks. There are three different continuous power options: 245 kW, 330 kW and 400 kW.
The six NMC batteries used in the vehicles provide a total net capacity of 480 kWh. This capacity allows the trucks to have a range of up to 500 kilometers. It was also shared that the range for a version with seven batteries could be up to 740 kilometers, but details about this version were not disclosed.
The company states that a range of up to 850 kilometers can be provided with intermediate charges in daily operations. Average consumption is at the level of 97 kWh per 100 kilometers. It is stated that the drive technology is completely located under the chassis in electric models.
This design allows the superstructures of the trucks to be easily adapted to the customer. MAN also stated that the versions with ultra-low chassis offer ideal solutions for special areas of use such as automotive logistics.
