In 2023, which Mark Zuckerberg called the “Year of Efficiency,” significant changes took place at Meta. Thousands of employees were laid off, management levels were reduced, and radical steps were taken to cut company expenses. This “efficiency” initiative continued into 2024, with a further reduction in the number of senior executives and ongoing cost-saving measures.

However, on the other hand, Meta began making substantial investments in GPUs and data centers to compete with OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in the field of artificial intelligence. This raises the question of whether Zuckerberg still has an obsession with efficiency.
The answer to this question emerged this week at the Meta Connect conference held in Silicon Valley, where the company shared its future plans with the press. Technology journalist Pranav Dixit noticed that the conference’s Wi-Fi password was “effici3ncy” and shared it on social media.
Dixit’s post on Threads quickly gained attention and was liked by Mark Zuckerberg himself. This was interpreted as a significant indication that the Meta CEO remains committed to controlling company costs and that this information is indeed accurate.
Experts point out that while Zuckerberg is investing in costly projects like artificial intelligence, he continues to focus on efficiency. Projects like Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, are ongoing, indicating that the internal cost-saving policy is still in place.
