The Mercedes-Benz C111 was a series of experimental cars that featured the German manufacturer’s new technologies during the 1960s and 1970s. This iconic car, designed to showcase the company’s latest technology, was also visually impressive. Now, Mercedes-Benz is bringing back this legendary vehicle.
The return of the Mercedes-Benz C111
The original C111 boasted an aerodynamic design, gullwing doors, and a centrally positioned Wankel engine. The iconic car’s 4-rotor Wankel engine was capable of propelling the vehicle to a speed of 300 km/h. In subsequent iterations, the Wankel engine was replaced by various diesel and petrol power units.
Only 16 units of the Mercedes-Benz C111 were produced, and it was showcased at numerous international fairs. Unfortunately, this experimental car, used to introduce the brand’s latest technologies, never entered serial production. However, Mercedes-Benz has excited car enthusiasts with a post on their Instagram account.
Through a series of posts, Mercedes-Benz reminded us of the C111. The concept model featuring the iconic yellow color and round headlights signifies a new era for Mercedes-Benz. The German manufacturer hinted at the C111 concept with captions like “Are you ready for the redesigned icon?” and “Are you ready for ICONIC LUXURY?”
Mercedes-Benz may follow a similar path to the C111 by introducing their new technologies with the upcoming concept car they will unveil soon. However, this time, it is likely that the vehicle will be equipped with an electric power unit under the hood instead of a Wankel engine. Additionally, it wouldn’t be surprising to find various driver assistance systems in the car.
The German automaker seems poised to revive the spirit of the C111 with this mysterious concept car. What are your thoughts on Mercedes-Benz and their new concept model? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
